Must Haves for Mom

A while back a friend asked me what would be a good gift for a baby shower. Well, I thought it would be fun to gather on the wisdom of you all. What are some of the nifty gadgets that you have found helpful in raising young kids?

Here's are couple of mine:

1. A baby carrier (like the baby bjorn)

2. Nursing Covers

3. The baby bjorn bibs (the ones made of a rubber/plastic that catch everything and are super easy to clean)

4. Bumbo

I really like those mesh food holders, not only are they great for introducing solids but they are fabulous for soothing cut lips and other mouth owies when you put an ice cube inside.

Also, the special rinse cups for washing hair that have a soft, flat side you can press against the child's forehead as you pour the water over the back of their head - it's really great for keeping soapy water out of eyes.

I'm trying to figure out what some of the "must haves" are...and my baby's only 7 months old!

I love my cloth diapers & wet bags to hold them in. That was the main thing I wanted for the 3rd baby. Wishing we had done cloth wipes (& I think we may still switch--they'll easily pay for themselves). There's a really cool wipes warmer that I'd love to try: http://www.simplecloth.com/catalog/item/7253562/7749540.htm

I also love the Sophie Giraffe for teething & all sorts of other educational uses.

the most useful baby carrier for both my babies has been the moby wrap, no contest. I think it's handy to have several types around. I wish I had $ to try an Ergo, everyone says they're awesome.

Getting things secondhand and then passing them along my favorite--especially those things you only use for a few months. (let me know if you want my swing, pink baby gym, or jungle bouncy chair 'cause Esther's pretty much done with them)

Never used a nursing cover, but would have loved to get one as a gift. I was too cheap to buy one. :)

As far as blankets go, my favorite are the colorful handmade quilts for baby to roll around on. They're quite stimulating. Someone made us one for Caleb & it's been the greatest thing. I also have a few favorite handmade knit afghans from friends.

I use a lot of essential oils with my family, and my favorite baby products are Gentle Baby (I use to give her massages & keep the cradle cap away) & Tender Tush (both from Young Living). I don't really use any other baby care products other than baby wipes.

I second the mesh food holders, although Esther hasn't really gotten into it. She likes to chew on the handle...my sister gave me a really cool baby food grinder that I need to find...you just grind up whatever you made for dinner & it's instant baby food!

Enjoy your last weeks of pregnancy!
